The Committees

Custodia’s committees are the core of our community. Each one focuses on a different part of student life — from social activities and sports to travel, academics, and creative work. Joining a committee is the perfect way to meet fellow students, gain experience, and actively shape the association. So if you’re looking to get involved and make an impact, don’t hesitate to apply!

Formal Committee

The Formal Committee bridges academia and professional life by organising lectures, workshops, and career events. Their work provides members with valuable insights into current issues in security and crisis management while building connections with practitioners in the field. By creating opportunities for professional development and networking, the committee helps Custodians prepare for life after their studies. If you are curious about learning from experts and building career skills, this is the committee for you!

Social Committee

The Social Committee is at the heart of Custodia’s community. They plan a wide range of events such as borrels, themed parties, dinners, and casual gatherings, ensuring there is always something fun on the calendar. Their efforts create an inclusive and lively atmosphere where members can build friendships, relax after classes, and feel part of a welcoming community. If you enjoy organising fun moments and bringing people together, apply to join the Social Committee!

Sports Committee

The Sports Committee brings energy and team spirit into Custodia’s activities. By organising tournaments, sporting events, and recreational activities, they make sure that all members can join in—whether as active players or enthusiastic supporters. Their events promote health, teamwork, and enjoyment while strengthening the bonds between students. If you are passionate about sports and creating active events, this committee is for you!

Travel Committee

The Travel Committee offers members the chance to discover new places while getting to know each other better. They arrange two major week-long trips that are typically among the most popular Custodia activities. Through their work, students can broaden their horizons, explore Europe, and create lasting memories together. If you love exploring new cities and cultures, join the Travel Committee!

Acquisition Committee

The Acquisition Committee secures the external partnerships that make Custodia’s work possible. They negotiate sponsorships, establish collaborations, and maintain deals with partners who support the association’s mission. Thanks to their efforts, Custodians can enjoy affordable events, unique opportunities, and benefits that extend beyond the university campus. If you like networking and building partnerships, this committee is the right choice for you!

Media Committee

The Media Committee is Custodia’s creative and communicative powerhouse. They design promotional materials, manage social media, take photos at events, and help develop the association’s professional image. Their work captures Custodia’s spirit and ensures that members, alumni, and partners can follow and celebrate everything happening within the community. If you love photography, design, or social media, the Media Committee is waiting for you!

Master Committee

The Master Committee specifically caters to the students of the MSc Crisis and Security Management. They aim to create a balance between professional and social activities. The more formal activities are focused on networking opportunities, improving professional skills and job orientation. Past activities have included workshops, company visits, guest lectures and many more. Alongside these professional activities they organize numerous social activities during which masters students can get to know each other outside of the lecture halls. Some examples have been master only drinks, cocktail workshops and movie nights. If you want to add an extra layer to your masters experience and to that of your fellow students by organizing these diverse networking opportunities apply for this committee!

(Note: The Head of Master Affairs is ex officio chair of the Master Committee. Any applications as chair will be considered for the position of vice-chair. With the broad scope of this position, we are seeking a proactive and motivated individual to successfully fulfill this role. For any questions, feel free to contact masters@custodiathehague.com)

First Year Committee

The First Year Committee is dedicated to welcoming new Bachelor students into Custodia. They plan activities that help newcomers settle into The Hague, meet fellow students, and feel part of the association from the very beginning. By creating fun and approachable events, they ensure every new Custodian has a strong start to their academic journey. If you want to help welcome and support new students, apply for the First Year Committee!

Committee positions

Every committee relies on members taking on clear roles to keep things running smoothly. These positions let you build leadership, organisational, and creative skills while working closely with your team and the Board. From leading events to managing finances or communications, each role offers a unique chance to contribute. So if you want to take on responsibility and grow within Custodia, apply for a position that fits you best.

Chair

The Chair leads the committee and ensures that everything runs smoothly. They set the agenda, oversee planning, and guide members in carrying out events successfully. In addition to internal leadership, the Chair also represents the committee in meetings with the Board and fellow committee chairs, ensuring good communication across Custodia. As both a motivator and a link to the wider association, the Chair plays a crucial role in keeping the team on track and connected. If you want to develop leadership and coordination skills, take on the challenge of becoming Chair.

(Note: Some (especially bigger) committees may additionally get a vice-chair to act in a supporting role for the chair.)

Treasurer

The Treasurer takes care of the committee’s finances and makes sure every project is realistic and well-prepared. They work closely with the Board treasurer to manage the budget allocated to their committee and keep in mind that events stay within budget. This close collaboration ensures that the committee’s work fits into Custodia’s overall financial framework, while also teaching members valuable organisational skills. Their careful planning helps turn ideas into successful, affordable events. If you are detail-oriented and like working with numbers, apply to be Treasurer.

Secretary

The Secretary manages the organisation and communication within the committee. They keep meeting minutes, monitor deadlines, and handle correspondence, but their role extends further. As part of the Custodia Secretariat, they also maintain regular contact with the Board Secretary and ensure smooth communication between committees. By keeping information flowing and records clear, the Secretary strengthens not just their committee but Custodia’s structure as a whole. If you are organised and enjoy communication, the Secretary role is ideal for you.

Assessor

The Assessor provides flexible support wherever it is most needed within the committee. Depending on the group, they might focus on promotion, logistics, creative ideas, or specific projects. This role leaves room for initiative and allows members to contribute according to their strengths, while also learning new skills. Assessors ensure that committees remain adaptable, efficient, and capable of delivering high-quality events throughout the year. If you want a versatile role with lots of room for creativity, apply to be an Assessor.
