In recent years, AI has increasingly affected strategic decisions, relations, and the course of wars. AI is not only accelerating the speed of modern warfare but has also become a powerful tool in today´s great power competition. What opportunities does the integration of AI into defense and security offer and what challenges does it pose? What is the role of human agency?
In this guest lecture, Sofia Romansky, Strategic Analyst and Internship Coordinator at The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies, will share her latest insights from her research on the role of AI in the military domain. She will explore what the responsible development and use of AI entails, which ethical and legal dilemmas we face, and which governance mechanisms are urgently needed to address those. The work of the Global Commission on Responsible AI in the Military Domain, an initiative by the Dutch government for which Romansky served as project coordinator, will function as an example illustrating these efforts.
The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session and an introduction to internship opportunities at the Hague Centre for Strategic Studies.
